Africa:
CSOs: “Give us a People’s SADC”

LILONGWE - Civil Society Organisations, who met on the sidelines of the Southern African Development Community Heads of State and government Summit launched a campaign to pressure the region’s leaders into creating a regional body that reflects the needs of the people.

The campaign, which is called “The SADC We Want to See” is an outcry against the regional body that, CSOs say, has deviated from its original purpose of improving the livelihoods of the poor.

The CSOs have three demands. They want a Regional Parliament, a Regional Court of Justice, and free movement of people across borders. (END//2013)
